Hair Colouring & Care
Hair colouring is not as easy and simple as it may sound. Having colored your hair, the after care is very essential. If coloured hair is not taken care of, they can become dry, brittle and lifeless. Ever wondered how all those celebrities have such dazzling hair? The trick lies in a good hair care regime and use of quality herbal products. Once in a fortnight treat your tresses with a deep hair conditioning treatment to keep them in good condition and to retain its shine and lustre.
But dying your hair can be disastrous if proper precautions or some basic care is not taken. After all, it's your hair that in any case, requires total care and nourishment for portraying a great admirable personality. Follow few simple techniques pre and post coloring to get that long desired impressive look.
Before starting with the colouring bit, make sure that you have washed your hair with shampoo properly. Using conditioner is strictly not advisable because it hampers the dye from doing its job. Yes the dye has to bond with the hair which is interfered with the use of conditioner. Do make use of a shampoo that thoroughly cleans hair but keeps the conditioner off the shelf!
If your scalp or hair is sensitive, which is generally the case in people with dry hair; leave a 24 hour gap before bleaching.
Before coloring; go through the instructions on the color pack and follow them word to word. Be careful with the dye; protect your skin by wearing gloves while applying it. Give extra care while applying as the color should only work hair and not the skin around it. The patches of color visible at the forehead can look ugly later so make sure that you apply a layer of petroleum jelly at the borders to avoid unnecessary coloring of the skin.
Tip: Do not shampoo your hair for 48 hours, post colouring. This time is required for the colour to settle in the hair shaft. Don’t take steam if you have coloured your hair, since it opens the cuticles and makes the hair dry and the colour may fade.
Hair colouring doesn’t stop with the application alone. The hair needs to be constantly cared for if you want the colour to be retained. Using conditioners (Veola Colour Lock) designed specially for coloured hair is a good way to maintain coloured hair.
Tip: Avoid washing your hair with hot water. Hot water is known to be a good agent to wash away artificial colours and chemicals from the hair. So avoid hot water at all costs.
